Mambo Frenzy – dance blog

Can you believe Mambo Frenzy is 2? Happy Birthday to us!

Our team has achieved a lot in the last 2 years. We have worked consistently in our favourite style – On2 Salsa from New York City! We performed in Australia and overseas. We have given Brisbane dancers the opportunity to keep developing their Mambo – this intricate and challenging dance style that is so hot in Europe and USA!

Students sometimes ask me why I focus on Mambo, and if I’d ever consider teaching On1 Salsa again. As an instructor of close to 15 years and of many Latin styles, I have taught many Salsa styles before – Cuban, Rueda, LA, and NY style. As a dancer, though, I have found that as I learnt more about Salsa music, its roots, its development, NY style was the one that kept giving. I started noticing that even though I was teaching other styles of Salsa, I hardly danced them socially, giving preference to Mambo (Salsa On2, NY style) more and more.

The reason was simple: the On2 style kept me growing over the years, and did not seem to ‘run out’ of challenges it offered. I can push new boundaries and keep growing both as a dancer and as an instructor. It is the most sophisticated ‘language’ for social dance that I have come across. As it continues to challenge me in new directions and new uses for my body, I love to share the discoveries with my students and my team.

So it’s about time I started writing this blog! I feel I have so much to share with the Brisbane dance scene. Hope to see you here often 😉
